TWSBI fountain pens are loved for their high quality and affordability, offering beautiful designs and advanced filling mechanisms normally reserved for much more expensive pens. The Diamond 580 features a modern, eye-catching design, with a transparent body that shows off the pen's inner workings. Its faceted barrel catches the light and makes your ink shine, and it also helps keep the pen from rolling away when you set it down. The pen's built-in piston filling system holds far more ink than a cartridge and lets you draw ink straight from the bottle—no converter required!
This limited-edition Iris pen features a clear plastic body and metal accents with a beautiful and unique rainbow finish. The nib also includes a matching finish near the tip.
Features:
Stainless steel nib with a rainbow finish near the tip.
High-capacity piston filling system.
Wrench and silicone grease for at-home maintenance.
Notes:
The rainbow finish varies from pen to pen, and no two pens will have the exact same color pattern.
This pen only uses bottled ink, which is not included with this pen. Check out our collection of bottled fountain pen inks here!
This pen can be refilled from any fountain pen ink bottle, but for clean and easy refilling, try a TWSBI Diamond 50 Ink Bottle, which has a special component designed specifically for refilling TWSBI Diamond fountain pens.
This pen may come with ink residue in the nib from being dip tested by TWSBI at the factory. As with all new fountain pens, JetPens recommends giving your TWSBI a good cleaning before you use it.
The plastic case is packaged in a protective cardboard box, which may get crumpled during shipping.
"Yes" indicates that this pen can be converted into an eyedropper pen, which is filled by putting ink directly into the barrel. For instructions, see our eyedropper conversion guide. For "Yes - with Modification," see the Questions & Answers section above and the guide.

Q: Can this pen be used with ink cartridges?
No, it can only be filled with bottled fountain pen ink.
Q: Can the cap be posted on the back of this pen?
It is possible to post the cap on the back of TWSBI Diamond 580, 580AL, and 580ALR fountain pens, but we do not recommend doing so. It makes the pen very long and top-heavy, and the cap will activate the piston mechanism if twisted while posted.
Q: Does this pen use Japanese or Western nib sizing?
All TWSBI fountain pen nibs are made in Germany and use Western nib sizing standards.
Q: How do I clean out the ink that is stuck between the inner and outer caps of this pen?
The TWSBI pen's cap can be taken apart for cleaning. To clean your pen's cap, follow these steps:
1. Wrap a wide rubber band around the eraser end of a wooden pencil. It is best to try to cover the metal band around the pencil with the wrapped rubber band to prevent accidental scratching of your TWSBI cap.
2. Gently but firmly stick the eraser end of the pencil into the cap of your TWSBI pen, as far as the pencil will go.
3. Slowly pull the pencil away from the cap, with the goal of taking the inner cap with the pencil. You may need to repeat steps 2-3 a few times before the cap will pop out.
4. Rinse, soak, and dry the caps.
5. Remove the rubber band from the wooden pencil.
6. Gently but firmly push the inner cap back into the outer cap, using the eraser end of the wooden pencil. Be careful not to scratch the inner cap with any part of the wooden pencil.
Q: How much ink can this pen hold?
The TWSBI Diamond 580, 580AL, and 580ALR can hold up to about 1.95 ml of ink. For the largest possible filling, follow these steps:
Cycle the piston down and up several times with the nib submerged in ink.
Take the pen out of the ink and hold it nib-up. Wait several seconds for the air bubbles inside the barrel to travel up to the nib.
Twist the piston knob slowy to force the remaining air out of the pen. Stop when ink begins to well up where the nib and feed meet the grip section.
Submerge the nib in ink again and twist the piston knob back to fill the pen to maximum capacity.
"Yes" indicates that this pen can be converted into an eyedropper pen, which is filled by putting ink directly into the barrel. For instructions, see our eyedropper conversion guide. For "Yes - with Modification," see the Questions & Answers section above and the guide.

Love these pens. They are gorgeous. I use the stub for Italic Calligraphy.
I’ve heard complaints about how horrible TWSBI stub nibs are, but they work
perfectly for me. I am newbie to the fountain pen world though. The ink capacity
in these pens are one of the biggest highlights for me.
Totally in love - the photos do not do the prismatic colors on the body justice,
and since I already have a TWSBI 580 in a Medium nib I knew I'd need to justify
this one with a different nib size, so I went with the 1.1 stub italic. This is
my first pen of that nib size as I'm relatively new to the hobby (got into it
around Xmas '21) and OMG, absolutely love what this does for my handwriting!
This is going to stay in my inked rotation of pens all the time now, starting
with a thank-you card for the person who gifted me this for my b-day. If you've
been wanting this pen colorway but weren't into the vacuum fill option, get this
one - it has the high-capacity, clip, and comfortable size that I love about my
existing 580 in a bold new statement body. I don't think I'll be comfortable
taking it to work (too appealing to sticky fingers), but this will get a
prominent display on my home desk.
Not only is this pen gorgeous, but it writes like a dream. I've had no issues
with it whatsoever thus far, and I'm really in love with the stylization
provided by the stub nib. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase!
These are superb pens! I use mine frequently and enjoy it tremendously! I have
never had a problem with it. It fills perfectly. It writes great!
I have the 580 1.1 nib in grape. To me the wide nib's very retro, recalling the
1930's &'40's. I used fountain pens with approximately 1.1 nibs that were
antiques from the '30's and '40's when I was in high school in the 1970's. So I
have been a big fan all the while. TWSBI's styling on the 580's and the 700vac's
is delightful! Depending on the colouring, some are almost gothic. I also have
the 700vac in Iris.
These pens are nearly magical! You certainly should buy at least two so you can
really give them a try out. - Paul
